In this work the decision has been taken not to increase the area of any individual habitat patch, but rather to enhance the connectivity between patches. So, the area of new habitat has been used to create a dispersal corridor.
The ecological value of the corridor will different for different species while the habitat diversity it provides will depend on its width. Narrow 'strip' corridors will only provide mariginal 'edge' habitats leaving the species of the interior habitats of the original patches still isolated. However if corridors are wide enough it is possible for them to possess both edge and interior habitats allowing connectivity for a greater range of species
