Island Biogeography Theory - 2

acrylic on canvas
40cm x 40cm
Iain White, 2009

In this painting the total area of the circles remains constant, but its distribution between the circles is unique which in turn determines the number of circles. In addition the location of the circles (representing habitat patches and/or local populations) is at random on the picture plane, (the landscape) illuststrating a particular case pertinent to the SLOSS debate.
