Walter Ashworth (1883 to 1952)

Ashworth was a sculptor, painter and teacher, based in Coventry, who played a key role in art development there. He was principal of Coventry College of Art, chairman of the Coventry and Warwickshire Society of Artists and was a war artist during World War II. He was a conscientious objector during WW1 and worked on the design of prosthetic limbs for wounded servicemen. Ashworth exhibited at the RA and locally. Stone reliefs he designed in the mid-1930s adorn the walls of Coventry Technical College.
